The APCE promotes Spanish conference centres across the world

The Spanish Association of Conference Centres will be present at the world’s major tourism fairs, thanks to the cooperation agreement signed with Turespaña.

The APCE will be present at the tourism industry’s main international trade fairs to promote Spanish conference centres abroad, as part of its current Action Plan.

In 2010, the APCE Chairman and CEO of the Valencia Conference Centre, José Salinas, and the General Manager of Turespaña, Antonio Bernabé, signed an agreement based on carrying out joint projects to promote and attract events from abroad. A series of events have since been organised for the whole year, in conjunction with the network of Spanish Tourism Offices abroad, which involve taking part in tourism-based trade fairs.

The APCE took part in the recent IMEX trade fair in Frankfurt (Germany) from 24th -26th May, which was attended by over 3,500 exhibiting firms from 150 different countries.

The Association will also be present at ITE&MICE in Hong-Kong (China), BTC in Rimini (Italy), IT&ME in Chicago (The USA) and AIME in Melbourne (Australia) over the next few months. These events constitute a potential audience of over 84,000 visitors which means a significant increase in visibility for the APCE’s member centres.

Through these actions, the APCE aims to promote Spain as an international congress, convention, and incentive travel destination, thus encouraging new customers and events to hold their meetings in Spanish conference venues.

According to the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), Spain is the third largest international congress destination.

Another element of the Turespaña agreement involves the APCE improving the visibility of its member centres in emerging communication markets through the promotion of online marketing tools, such as the Association’s web site which has recently been updated www.palacios-congresos-es.com.

According to José Salinas “The APCE has served as an international platform for Spanish conference centres since it was founded 15 years ago. According to the Association's statistical report, national and international delegates have accounted for 80% of congress participants over the last year. These results endorse our country’s ranking as one of the world’s top destinations for event tourism and confirm the fundamental role of Spanish conference centres as the main venues for large-scale event tourism meetings.

About the APCE

Since it was founded in 1995, the Spanish Association of Conference Centres (APCE), the body which brings together Spain's major congress venues, has aimed to defend and represent the collective interests of its members in their dealings with industry peers and with the relevant administrative authorities. In addition, the APCE enables its members to exchange business ideas and experiences and acts as the focal point for conference and event tourism in Spain.

The APCE is celebrating its 15th Anniversary this year at the Association’s 9th Annual Congress which will be held at the Valencia Conference Centre from 14th -15th July. This event will feature a top quality scientific and social programme for the members of the 37 conference centres which make up the Association.
