The APCE Award is awarded by the Spanish Association of Conference Centres (APCE). Its purpose is to acknowledge and endorse the prestige of persons and organisations which, by holding their events in conference centres, help to promote activities in the conference industry and create a powerful economic multiplier effect on the area in which they are located.
The APCE Award is a sculpture created by the prestigious Valencian designer, Pepe Gimeno. Made of rusted iron and lacquered aluminium, it symbolises the convergence and exchange of ideas which exists among conference centres.
The APCE Award has become the highest accolade within the conference sector in Spain. The selection process begins with a proposal put forward by the APCE’s Board of Directors. This is then endorsed by the General Assembly, which is made up of member conference centre managers. The award ceremony generally coincides with the APCE Annual Conference.
Special Recognition for His Majesty the King
To mark the royal audience granted to the Association, the Board of Directors thanked His Majesty the King on behalf of all its members and presented him with a special APCE Award.

2006 APCE AWARD
The first APCE Award was posthumously awarded to Víctor Villegas, Managing Director of the Region of Murcia Auditorium and Conference Centre, for the important role he played in the event tourism sector and for his professional career in the conference industry. He extended and consolidated the status of the conference centre he managed as a multipurpose space and increased awareness of it through involvement with international organisations. His tragic death in an accident in 2003 has not erased the mark he left on the centre both in human and professional terms. That same year the centre was renamed the Region of Murcia “Victor Villegas” Auditorium and Conference Centre. Likewise, Victor Villegas left his mark on the Spanish Association of Conference Centres.
